The piece de resistance.

A second lamp almost complete......
. <---Isn't our lamp gorgeous??
What good are wonderful beaches if you can't find gread driftwood there?
What do you do with the great driftwood?
Well my Mr. found an interesting piece of driftwood on one of our bicycle trips to southern beaches. He had to strap it to his bicycle to get it home. A few weeks later he rode up to our front gate with an old junk lamp he'd found along the road. Whoa - did I mention he's Scottish? Anyway, junk lamp yielded just the right lamp shade, rod and fittings to make a driftwood lamp! (Yes, it's safe - he bought new cord and socket on a trip to the main island.) He sanded and bored the driftwood, built a base out of some junk solid mahogany (gasp!) from the scrap heap, varnished (or whatever) it. And voila - it is gorgeous! Yes, we will be bringing it back to Colorado with us. Maybe we'll splurge later and buy a new lamp shade.

We were bragging about how nice it was to our favorite taxi driver when she took us to buy the cord and socket in the capitol city. Emailed a photo to her. And she wanted one too! Thus the "second lamp" above.

Dorothy, note the t-shirt he bought on one of our outings. It has held up very well all these months. Nobody here gets the joke ("If a man speaks in the forest where no one can hear..... is he still wrong?"). In fact, we haven't figured out humor here.... if there is any.
