An island beekeeper graciously donated his two-year supply of beeswax for our candle-making project.We made lovely all-natural candles, large and small in coconut shells plus some little votives!!
The donation of beeswax is important because paraffin is rare on the island. At home, I melt down the taper candles (they are sold in case of power outages), but that isn't commercially feasible for the Handicraft Center. Paraffin may be inexpensive to buy in the US, but shipping a 10# block of wax to the island would be a huge expense, so that's not feasible either.

Note: our island is free of the diseases that are hurting the world-wide bee population, so these souvenir candles can be taken home guilt free.
