This morning we discovered, while trying to make toast, that our stove gas tank was empty. Stoves in the Caribbean are fueled by an LP gas tank attached to the stove by a hose. We're fortunate that our tank is outside... many we've seen are right in the kitchen next to the stove.
So anyway, unable to toast the bread in the frying pan, we ate buttered bread with our cereal and headed to the grocery shop with the old gas tank to exchange it for a refill. Oops! They're out of gas! They usually have dozens on a rack out front. Hmmm. We're told that more gas tanks will come on the next boat. Maybe later today or maybe tomorrow. So we just wait.
The good news is that a tank only costs $32 and "we"(Jim) can cook with that for two months.
PB&J for lunch, then. And maybe we'll try buying dinner from those vendors in the village square who bar-B-que chicken, hamburgers.... Hey it's Friday night. They might even have ribs!
BTW -- Toasters cost about $100. Once, just to get by 'til payday, Jim buttered the bread first and put it in the frying pan. Voila! Now we like it better. We don't need no stinkin' toaster.
